Lightning Network has now over 1000 nodes registered in Bitcoin mainnet

Lightning Network (LN) has recently passed a threshold of 1000 active node within its Bitcoin mainnet implementation. This is an important milestone in the scaling solution’s development.

According to the data provided by a number of monitoring resources, there are 1003 online LN nodes as of March 12. These are being supported by unprecedented 1892 open channels.

Such significant growth in scale is characteristic of both testnet and mainnet Lightning implementations, the latter being launched in December 2017. More and more nodes opt in favor of joining LN despite all the criticism heard from some prominent figures in Bitcoin.

Criticism of the emerging system sterns from the issues related to the protocol not yet being reliable enough to handle users transactions on a mass scale. Nevertheless, last month witnessed Microsoft voicing its preference of LN over the bigger blocks offered by altcoin Bitcoin Cash.
