This year, the daily number of successful phishing attacks against Russian Internet users increased by 34%, as reported by Group-IB cybersecurity company.
While presenting its new cybersecurity products at CyberCrimeCon 2018 international conference, Group-IB provided the audience with statistics on phishing attacks and attacks on crypto exchanges.
The majority of attacks were targeting users and companies in the U.S., France and Germany. However, according to the data provided by Group-IB, the number of successful attacks in Russia grew by 34% from 950 in 2017 to 1274 this year. Hackers managed to get away with ₽ 251 million (about $3.75 million), a 6% increase from 2017.
On the international scale, phishing attacks are responsible for more than a half (56%) of funds stolen from ICO projects, as reported by the experts from Group-IB. However, most phishers still prefer to target cloud storages (28%), financial and online services (26% and 19% respectively).
The cases of cryptocurrency exchange hacking have also doubled in number over the past two years, with 14 crypto exchanges being robbed of $882 million over the said period of time.
According to Kaspersky Lab’s experts, in 2017, ICO projects have lost $300 million to hackers worldwide.
