Analytical report: 77% of blockchain patents in 2018 come from China

According to a recent report by Blockdata analytical center, China by far outperforms other countries in the number of blockchain-related patent filings in 2018.

Since the end of last year, 1400 blockchain patent filings originated from China. This makes for astounding 77% of the world output.

Of these, 650 patent applications were filed by various state agencies and institutions, all the rest coming from private companies and startups headquartered in China.

Country’s leadership in the number of blockchain patents has been rapidly increasing in the course of this year. This clearly indicates the country’s intention to contest the leading players at the blockchain market, including the U.S.. Some experts believe, however, that despite all its success in the field, China lacks infrastructural and educational resources to replace the U.S. as the world’s leader in blockchain.
