U.S. schools, hospitals and government offices received bomb threats demanding BTC ransom

Unknown group of cyberterrorists is targeting U.S. schools, hospitals, government and business offices with e-mails containing bomb threats and demands of BTC ransom.

The FBI has released the following statement on the matter:

“We are aware of the recent bomb threats made in cities around the country, and we remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance. As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety.”

They believe in the FBI that these threatening e-mails are nothing but a cryptocurrency extortion scam, as no explosive devices were found in any of the buildings subject to blackmail.

However, as the FBI warns, it’s still important to take any bomb threat seriously and to report suspicious activity or e-mails to the authorities immediately.

Last month, FBI had to deal with an 18-year-old Indian resident who was threatening to blow up Miami airport after futilely addressing the agency with requests to help in getting back his bitcoins stolen by a fraud.
