John McAfee fled the U.S. owing to charges of tax fraud

John McAfee, who is going to run for the U.S. presidency in 2020, announced on Tuesday, January 22, that he had fled the U.S.. According to McAfee, he is currently “living in exile” on a boat due to being charged with tax fraud.

The former antivirus tycoon and crypto entrepreneur John McAfee posted a video in which he states he has got serious problems with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS). As explained by McAfee in the video, the IRS charges him with “using cryptocurrencies in criminal acts”.

“I have not paid taxes for eight years – I’ve made no secret of it! They want to silence me and I will not allow that. I am running my campaign in exile on this boat for the duration. I will not allow them to imprison me and shut my voice down,” – McAfee emphasized while sitting on a rocking boat.

“Today, crypto community, we are at war, and I am on the frontlines,” – he stated.

Back in June 2018, John McAfee, who is a well-known crypto advocate and the head of the eponymous anti-virus cybersecurity company, announced he will take part in the presidential elections 2020. In 2016, he was a Libertarian Party nomination but eventually lost to former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson. He also promised to pardon Ross Ulbricht, if elected.

Last October, McAfee announced the creation of an alliance for combating corruption in the crypto community, while calling for support for coins that decided to delist from corrupt centralized exchanges.
